The Lakewood Playhouse Poster Series

This year I was fortunate enough to be asked by the local community theater, the Lakewood Playhouse,  to create posters for the six shows that would make up their 75th Anniversary Season. The managing Art Director and friend, John Munn, also had a unique idea. He wanted me to design the series so that when placed end to end they created one large continuous mural image that would not be revealed until the last poster was released. Well, today is that day. All 6 posters have been released and now I can reveal the entire project. 

I will be at the Lakewood Playhouse on SATURDAY, JUNE 14th to sign all six posters & Limited Edition Prints made specifically for the signing! If you are in Tacoma please join me and stay to see Spamalot. It should be a fantastic performance.

Wedding commission

A few weeks ago I received an email from a fan of White Wolf's original Changeling the Dreaming RPG asking if I had any original art from my time as an artist on that series that I would be willing to sell to her as a gift to her fiancé as a wedding present. I was pretty touched that A.) someone would want to give my art to anyone as a gift, and that B.) by art would be part of two people's special union. (Full disclosure, I was not her first choice but luckily for me Rebecca Guay was too expensive) I was so touched in fact that I offered to create for her a completely new original painting in the style of my old black and white interior art for Changeling the Dreaming to use as a gift instead. She agreed and I got to work. Below are some work in progress shots along with the finished painting.

It is a shot of both of their characters engaged in a scene she described for me from their campaign. The finished piece is water color, gauche and acrylic on watercolor paper. It has been years since I painted anything like this and this was a really special and touching project to get to work on.

I am posting it today because today is the date of their wedding.

Since I figured I couldn't ironically draw any exploitative image of the heroine that hasn't already been made and released on the internet with complete pigheaded sincerity I went in a… different direction.

Sometimes I hold a contest for anyone that shares my Sidekick Quests webcomic. The winner gets to tell me to draw something and I draw it. I call it Retweet Rewards. This is one of them.

Josh Hughes (@Atomicterrier on Twitter) is the creator of the very clever and equally cute webcomic Bot Bros about two robot brothers exploring a classic fantasy world. Josh asked me to draw the main characters from Bot Bros. So that is what I did.

Fantasy Monster Valentines!

It is almost Valentine's Day again... and that means I am making some new valentines. This year my son asked me to design Valentines featuring monsters from fantasy Roleplaying Games. Included in the set is a Goblin, Owlbear, Gelatinous Cube, Rust Monster, Kobold (lizardy version), Beholder, Bugbear, Gnoll and a extra large sized Terrasque!

Donutmas 2013

First, let me tell you a story... 4 years ago I weighed 400lbs. I had two very young children and I got winded just walking up to the front door. My father, also very heavy, was beginning to suffer from mobility and health issues due to a lifetime of obesity. I was looking at an unpleasant ghost of Christmas future. So, I decided to do something about it. I started going to a nutritionist. I began exercising (mostly walking to and from work) and I stopped eating my very favorite treat of all time... DONUTS. It took about a year but eventually I lost 150lbs. The day I broke the 250lb. barrier Was Nov. 7th. On that day, to reward myself... I ate my first donut in over 375 days. It was like a holiday. It was so great that I knew I couldn't just keep eating them or I would quickly boomerang back to 400lbs.

So I decided to actually create my own holiday. November 7th would be, for me and my friends, one day a year set aside to eat a donut and feel GREAT about it. Because the donuts on Nov. 7th represented everything good that you accomplished in the past year. And from this day forth it would be called Donutsmas... the mini Christmas of Donuts.

And so I every year I celebrate one day where I eat all the donuts I want and I don't feel bad about it. Today, November 7th, is that day. DONUTSMAS... the one magical day of the year when eating donuts is the best thing you could possibly do for yourself.

November 7th. 

Eat them. 

You know you want to. 

Don't feel bad. 

It's DONUTSMAS!
