Blot in 3-D!

So awhile ago I made the some fanart inspired by the Transformers: Animated cartoon of some toys from my childhood called the Terrorcons which were basically evil robots that turned into monsters than then all combined together into this mostly magenta larger robot. I loved these guys as a kid so I had a lot of fun redrawing them in the updated style of the newer cartoon that my son was enjoying. I was also urged by another Transformer's fan artist to post my creations on the http://www.tfw2005.com/ fan art forums, which i did. the response I got there to the work was really rewarding. This post is about one of those responses.

One of the Terrorcon illustrations I made was of a toy called Blot. I redrew Blot to look like the Frankenstein monster. Here he is below.

Today I was treated to a www.tfw2005.com member's interpretation of that artwork made out of Blu-Tack modelling putty. His (or her, I am not really sure... but lets assume his) handle on www.tfw2005.com is Scorpio-Prime and he was gracious enough to not only make a super awesome version of my version of Blot but to allow me to post it here so that all of you can see it as well. So here it is.

Awesome right?

Easily one of the coolest art related things to ever happen to me. Thanks Scorpio-Prime.

24 HOUR COMIC BOOK DAY!

So it is that time of year again. It is 24 Hour Comic Book Day this Saturday the 2nd of October. And again this year I am stepping up to the challenge. I will join four other esteemed CLAW artists (as well as comic artists and cartoonists from across the country) in attempting to create 24 comic book pages in 24 hours. This year in Tacoma the challenge will be held at Comic Book Ink's new location at 2510 S. 84th, Suites 15A-B Lakewood, WA. I will be there from 8:30 am on the 2nd for 24 straight hours until 8:30am on the 3rd (or until I am finished, throw in the towel or pass out from exhaustion).

This year, like last year, I am also requesting your help. Last year I unofficially asked for people to bring me food and caffeine to keep me going for the 24 hours and offered to literally draw them into the comic if they did so. Word spread around and the amount of edible donations was quite surprising. Now I'd like to officially harness that enthusiasm and good will for a higher purpose.

This year I am asking everyone to stop into Comic Book Ink any time during the 24 hours and donate whatever they can to the Cartoonist League's Young Cartoonist of the Future Scholarship. Anyone that does so will be invited to help me literally write my 24 comic script by filling in deliberate holes I have left in the story MAD LIBS style. You need to be on site during the event to participate and CLAW will accept cash or personal checks (but not credit cards). If you make a donation you can claim one of the options below to make your own and either help create a super awesome story or complicate my challenge to the nth degree (or both). Am I crazy to even attempt to complete 24 comic book pages incorporating elements selected at random by onlookers in 24 hours? yes, I probably am... but the results could be awesome and the effort is for a good cause.

So I hope to see you at Comic Book Ink on Saturday. I'll be there... won't you be there too?

And for all of you planning to bring me food in hopes of appearing in my comic... I hear that Mark Monlux is accepting food donations for his 24 hour comic book attempt and promises to draw you into HIS comic. Who knows, if you still want to bring me food I might try to sneak you into the comic anyway. It is that kind of event!

HUN-GURRR!

I recently purchased the Transformers Animated Almanac II for Barrett (yeah, right... for Barrett) at Comic Book Ink (awesome store shoutout!) and looking through it gave me serious jonez to draw TFA fanart (again). So, dispite having way too many OTHER projects demanding my time I busted this out inbetween doing every...thing else. I decided to turn the Terrorcons (loved those guys as a kids, Monsters + Transformers = Stowe glee) into real monsters. In this case I turned their leader Hun-Gurrr (love that name) into a 'flesh' eating zombie-bot.
